OKW reported that just after mid-night on Sunday April 21st a shooting took place in Poteau on Peters Street.
In that report, Gerald Wayne Corbett II, 46 of Poteau had been shot at the residence. Corbett was transported by helicopter to a Tulsa Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

According to the Poteau Police Department the 911 call came in at 8:38 P.M. on April 21st. When police arrived at the scene Corbett was in the front yard, lying on his back and bleeding from a gunshot wound from the chest. Police also noticed a small caliber rifle on the ground next to Colbett.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that Corbett and his girlfriend Carrie Amos, 20, had been arguing and were rolling around on the ground. One witness was taking two children away from the scene, when she heard a gunshot as she was driving away. The witness returned to the scene after making sure the children were safe.
According to the report Amos was not at the residence when they arrived on the scene, but she was later located and taken to the police station for questioning.
According to Stephen Fruen, Poteau Police Chief, Corbett was taking the gun away from Amos during the altercation, the gun hit the ground causing it to discharge and the bullet striking him in the chest.
No charges have been filed in the case as it has been ruled an accidental shooting.
Gerald Corbett has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
